Major League Baseball ruined a rather fantastic idea by ordering a Pennsylvania MBA student to cease all production and distribution of some swanky t-shirts that depicted iconic professional baseball logos transformed into a pro Barack Obama logo.

The web site Obamaofdreams.com began selling the $19.99 shirts last month and had more than a dozen versions available when an MLB lawyer sent proprietor Morris Levin a cease and desist letter threatening legal action. Baseball officials contended that the clever shirts, examples of which you’ll find on the following pages, violated the league’s trademarks.

Come on! Obama wants to unite us. Just read today’s speech. What better way to instill that idealism than wearing shirts, with colors and insignia of our favorite teams, coalesced with Obama? We were ready to ask the big boss for an advance to get our hands on as many shirts as we could, of course, for the sole reason of selling them at 500% of their wholesale price. We’re kidding. We would have auctioned them off to the best damn commenters at the Chip. Unfortunately, you’ll just have to make do with a gallery of the shirts that were available.
