Peruvian Soccer Club Cienciano Is Dead Broke

We thought we’d heard the worst from Peruvian club Cienciano when players from their organization were mugged on pay day at the club’s offices last month. Now, club owners are reeling in the kind of humiliation we imagine Nick Nolte suffers, when they came to find out that the club is officially worth a television set, 21 dollars and whatever they can haggle from the local pawn shops for their trophies.
“A public notice in a [Peruvian] sports column confirmed that the popular club doesn’t have a stadium, nor do they have training grounds, and their offices are currently located in a rented house.”
This is Peru’s most successful club when it comes to international tournaments, and though are first inclination is to lagh hysterically until mocos come out, we’re actually inspired by the fact they’ve managed to win a Copa Sudamericana (2003) and a Recopa Sudamericana (kind of like the Euro Super Cup) against Boca Juniors in 2004. Good news is the team’s prez confirmed the local government had just donated some land. Remember: if you build it, they make sure to charge enough money so you don’t have to sell of the trophies…and the television set.
