The San Francisco Giants Don’t Think Jesus (Or Their Closer) Should Save So Loudly

As if the Giants didn’t have enough problems already this year with the whole lack of runs thing, it looks like they’re trying to start a holy war. Their reliever, Brian Wilson, wants to enter the game as pumped up as he can be–by listening to Christian Rock, especially “Rise Up” by the band Disciple, turned up so loud they could hear it in Oakland. Unfortunately, the Giants front office has a little bit of a problem blasting a with a song with lyrics like these:
“I will not sit silently as you mock and curse my God/Stand against Him, you will be brought down/Here I come/I’m ’bout to rise up/With all of my people/We’re ’bout to rise up.”
Hey, at least it’s not that damn “We Like To Party” song.
It’s not the Christian theme but the public’s unfamiliarity with the song that gives pause to Bryan Srabian, the Giants’ director of marketing and entertainment. That’s why, at least for now, Srabian’s staff doesn’t plan to boost the decibel levels.
“We’ll play the song and read the situation,” Srabian said. “You’ve got to let the fans cheer him on. We don’t want to manufacture any false atmosphere. So we’ll play his song and hope that it builds up organically.”
You know, we’ve got not problem with this getting pumped through the speakers. The Mets make us clap our hands (clapclapclapclapclap…) against our wills. At least listening to this makes you think twice about driving home drunk after the game.
