Imagine if NBC decided to move “The Office” because the Boston Red Sox were playing the Tokyo Giants in an exhibition game on the same night, at the same hour. The reason the Red Sox would be playing the game is due to the fact that they missed “the playoffs” and Tokyo has nothing better to do. You’d be upset right? No? You’d be really fucking angry because you love “The Office?” Well, a bunch of Brits are upset “The Apprentice” has been booted from it’s regularly scheduled hour due to an England V USA exhibiton game.
Some fans are unhappy about the move, with one posting on the Digital Spy message board: “Why on earth take off The Apprentice just to show a friendly match that counts for nothing?
“Not everyone likes football, why do TV companies not understand this?”
Another commented: “No TV show escapes rescheduling when football is on - it seems to take precedence over everything else.”
A BBC spokesperson told the Guardian: “It is quite usual for us to move programmes to accommodate big sporting occasions. That is the reason for this schedule change.”
“Big sporting occasions?” By big they obviously mean small. Learn from the Yanks, Brits: only reschedule programs for high-speed chases, Amber alerts and O.J. Simpson.
