Remember that screwed up story we ran yesterday about Yankees fan Ivonne Hernandez running over and killing a Boston fan with her car? It turns out the raucous didn’t escalate to senselessness because she was taunted and teased. The girlfriend of the deceased told The Boston Herald that her boyfriend, Matthew Beaudoin, defended a female friend who’d been punched in the face by Ivonne, resulting in his death by vehicular obliteration moments later.

But Beaudoin’s devastated girlfriend Donna Dionne, 29, told the Herald yesterday, “Matt was sticking up for a friend who had been punched by this woman. It had nothing to do with a big baseball rivalry. These stories are wrong.”

Dionne said Beaudoin’s friends, who witnessed the horror, told her the confrontation was sparked when Hernandez punched a female pal of Beaudoin’s outside the bar.
Dionne said her boyfriend tried breaking up the fight, but when Hernandez got into her 1997 Dodge Intrepid and he saw a Yankees sticker in the back, he and friends jokingly chanted “Yankees suck!”

Obviously this doesn’t make her actions any better than before, but at least we can rest assured that the next time we toss some serious jibe towards an opposing team’s fan, they won’t turn around in their Prius and smash their pumpkin orange front decal into our shins at 50mph. Because it’s comforting to know you can talk smack without the consequence of, you know, dying.
