Red Sox slugger and future Hall of Famer Manny Ramirez hit his 500th home run in Baltimore this past weekend. Luckily for Ramirez, Sox fan Damon Woo was sitting with his brother Jason where the ball landed so everything ended up okay, right? Well, yeah. Except there was one little problem–Woo promised the ball to his girlfriend’s son earlier in day if he caught it that night. Awkward…

“I’m going to catch Manny’s 500th home run tonight,” Woo, a 40-year-old New York City resident, said to McCarthy earlier in the day… “and I’m going to give it to you.”

After being ushered away by security and into the Red Sox clubhouse, Damon Woo called McCarthy to let him know that he had, indeed, caught Ramirez’ home run and now needed to know what to do with it.

The teenager gave the go-ahead: Manny should have the ball.

“It’s his accomplishment, it’s his achievement, it’s his ball,” said Damon Woo, who was allowed to hold on to the ball for the night before handing it over to Ramirez today. “That’s the right thing to do.”

“They can call me crazy,” Damon said, “but I’ve done a lot crazier things in my lifetime.”

Yes, but not as crazy as the person who thew back Luis Gonzales’ 350th HR ball in Philly because it was an opponent’s dinger. At least Woo got some bats and balls out of it… and we’re assuming some “goodwill” from his girlfriend. Biiing!.
