NY Times Disses Dodger Dogs… Oh, It’s On Now

We don’t know if the New York Times is trying to reignite some type of east-west coast feud, but its travel writer Peter Meehan is about to get one going. Why? Did he diss the LA Times? No, Angelenos do that all the time. What Meehan did was document his food experiences at ten ballparks across the country, one of which was Dodger Stadium. And of course when dining at Chez Chavez Ravine, you’re going to single out the most iconic frank outside of Sinatra–the Dodger Dog. And like The Chairman, you give proper respect to the frank. Meehan didn’t give proper respect to the frank.

[T]he concession stands in the upper seats were dreary at best. The trademark Dodger Dogs were contemptibly bad (salty, greasy and tepid), and a large cup of Miller Lite was overpriced at $12.25. [Ed note: Really? 12.25? Damn... but still, that gives him no right to diss the DD.]

Salty? Greasy? Sign us up, man. But apparently his refined tastes were better suited at the Dodgers’ enemy’s stadium–AT&T Park. We smell a liberal, New York-and-Berkley-based media conspiracy!

[S]ome of the best food is behind the scoreboard, where a terrace overlooking the bay, the Scoreboard Plaza, is home to an impressive array of ambitious vendors. By the seventh-inning stretch, I had sampled a peppery clam chowder served in a bread bowl dotted through with tender bits of clam; a fried catfish sandwich in a crisp, Cajun-accented crust; and a homey bowl of jerk chicken over rice, with a healthy dash of jalapeño hot sauce.

We would wish that next time a home run ball would fall into his “homey bowl of jerk chicken over rice,” but that would involve the Giants anemic offense to actually hit one.
