Of course really cool shit happens two weeks after we depart from NYC to Mexico City for the next two years. We did live about four blocks away from Sara D. Roosevelt Park–right down the street from Whole Foods and walking distance from Barrio Chino (the restaurant, not Chinatown) where we would eat once a week–and yesterday Steve Nash and Claudio Reyna organized a charity soccer game there that involved Thierry Henry, Jason Kidd, Jozy Altidore, Raja Bell, Baron Davis and others from around the world. Though it was Baron Davis’ handballs and yellow cards that infused enthusiasm into the giant crowd,The New York Times reports that other basketball players performed extraordinarily well because of, well, genetics of course.
Some of the basketball players fared remarkably well. Kidd, who played soccer in high school, and Barbosa, a Brazilian who has soccer in his DNA, showed keen instincts and delicate touches.
Because Brazilians drop from the womb kicking balls, don’t they? Thierry Henry also managed to received a few “oos” and “ahhs” after showcasing a mesmerizing…back heel?
Hogwash. We want bicicletas, sombreritos and the defender’s ankles to break. It’s the least you can ask from a World Cup champ and former Balon D’or recipient. More videos are over at You Been Blinded if you’re so inclined.
