Finally, someone other than his quarterback is as happy KC Chiefs’ Tight End Tony Gonzalez is as tall as he is. A California man was choking in a restaurant when Gonzalez came up behind him and performed the Heimlich maneuver, popping the piece of meat stuck in his throat out. We wonder if Tony gave him the speech about vegetarianism afterwards, because from our experience with them, they can be a little preachy about it even in inappropriate circumstances.

“Tony saved my life. There’s no doubt,” Ken Hunter, a shipping company manager, told The Associated Press in a phone interview… “Tony came up behind me and gave me the Heimlich maneuver. Thank God he was there.”

Well, God and an empty stomach.

“I tried to take a drink of water, but I couldn’t swallow,” Hunter told The AP. “Then I couldn’t breathe. That’s a terrible feeling. I couldn’t breathe. Then I guess I started to panic.” The 6-foot-5 Gonzalez, about a foot taller than Hunter, jumped out of his chair and came up behind the stricken man and began to perform the Heimlich maneuver.

“After just a few seconds, the piece of meat popped out,” Hunter said. “I could breathe again. It’s a good thing Tony is so tall because I had stood up — I think.”

It turns out Hunter is a Chargers fan, so we wonder if he’ll clap for Gonzalez next time the Chiefs are in town. What’s the most honorable thing you can do to represent for the star player for a division rival who saved your life–add him to your fantasy football team? Not throw beers at him during a game? Yes. And yes.
