• Superliga: We made fun of the Superliga last year, but we really enjoy it this year seeing as it’s the only interesting soccer outside of Brazil right now. (Come to us FMF.) Mexico’s Pachuca FC held on to beat MLS club Chivas USA, 2-1, in Group B action. [IHT]
• MLB: The Tampa Bay Rays are sure doing a lot of losing while touting the title of most exciting ball club in the majors. The All-Star break has officially begun and they ended the note with a 7-game skid. Cleveland 5, Tampa Bay 2. By the way, they’re no longer the AL East leaders. [ESPN]
• More Superliga: The US teams weren’t going to be bullied around by the Mexican clubs yesterday. New England did all they could to preserve a 1-0 lead until the final whistle. [Canadian Press]
