Michael Ballack Thinks Your “Hooray For Our Team” Banners Are Trashy And Stupid

Michael Ballack’s had to cope with gargantuan losses in the last few years. His record during championship games isn’t one to gloat upon. He’s been a part of two losing Champions League teams, a World Cup team in 2002 and now he’s a Euro 2008 loser. So you have to give him credit for taking a modest bow and saluting his fans for all their supports. Excuse us? What’s that? He declined to show his support. Oh, well. Screw the vato.

The German skipper had a serious run-in with general manager Oliver Bierhoff when he was asked to hold up a banner thanking them for their support during the tournament.

The Chelsea midfield star refused — saying he thought the banners were cheap and nasty — and the thank-you gesture was abandoned despite the team’s supporters staying in the stadium to applaud their team long after the final whistle.

Which is a drag considering it took over 30 years of diplomatic talks, the demolishing of a giant wall and the eternal struggle to prove to the world that xenophobia is no longer a national pastime to unite the great people of Germany to start waving the orange, red and black together again. Smooth, Ballack.
