Truth be told, we already mentioned the most important tech news today, the iPhone data plans. That said, Nikon has released an absolute beauty of a digital camera today, the D700. It’s a digital SLR, that is, not one of those small camera you put in your pocket, but if you have any interest in photography, commence drooling.

So what’s so great about the D700? For all intents and purposes, it’s a shrunken down D3, which is Nikon’s absolute top-of-the-line camera; it’s the kind of cameras pro photographers would use. The D700 has a 12.1-megapixel sensor, and uses the company’s so-called FX format. All that means is that the sensor corresponds to a full frame of 35mm film. (It’s actually only 95 percent full frame, but that’s damn close as it is.)
Basically, if you’re serious about your photos—maybe you do a lot of weddings or portraits professionally—you would do well to get the D700. It is expensive, at $3,000, but it’s not meant for drunken nights out. That’s what point-and-shoots are for.
