So what’s more demeaning to the people you’re competing against–posing as a handicapped person or a woman to gain some perceived competitive edge during a race? Well, while the former is only a plot point in movies (we hope), there have actually been men who have competed as women in sporting events, like the man in the picture, Santhi Soundarajan, who won multiple medals in womens events over two sets of Asian Games (and obviously had them later stripped). That’s why for the Olympics, the city of Beijing has set up a station for gender verification for anyone “suspected” of not being who they seem. Man, we wish they had those in TJ a few years ago during spring break.
OLYMPIC host Beijing has set up a sex determination lab to test female Olympic athletes suspected to be males, state media reported today. Experts at the lab, located at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, will evaluate dubious cases based on their external appearance and take blood samples testing sex hormones, genes and chromosomes…
External appearances? Jesus, talk about profiling–can’t a woman have an adam’s apple without having to be poked and prodded to make sure that she’s a… oh really?
