When we try to figure out and analyze an athlete, sometimes we go too far. Fans always think it’s the system or the upbringing or a string of losses that makes an athlete just lose his shit during inopportune times, like when they’re in the middle of a DWB (driving while black) incident with the police. But what about Paul Pierce? He just claimed himself the best basketball player in the game today, and he finally reached the summit by winning the NBA crown and the Finals’ MVP award. Surely a man riding high like this would rather shake the officer’s hand and sign some autographs than antagonize the cops who just pulled you over, right? Uh, no.

Pierce passed the field sobriety test, and a Breathalyzer determined that his blood alcohol content was below the [limit]… According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Pierce was initially “uncooperative” after being stopped but calmed down after being handcuffed. The cuffs were removed after about 15 minutes, and Pierce was not cited for a traffic violation.

But SLAM dug up some gossip about why Pierce was so agitated from a man wearing an eyepatch, so we think the odds of the account being true are about 50/50.

During their two-hour dinner, the female companion of Pierce’s buddy tossed a shrimp at the 6-foot-7 former Kansas star. Pierce’s galpal scolded her, saying, “What’s wrong with you? Little girls do that.”

You don’t have to be a superstar athlete to figure out what happened next–some more words were exchanged between the ladies, leading to an awkward dinner where everyone just pushed their $50 salad around. And just as it almost got nuclear, the police cherries lit up the rear-view mirror and Pierce was soon transferring the argument with his girl to an argument with the cops.
