The Little League games most of us were associated with usually had a lot of uncoordinated kids missing wildly at pitches–as well as ground balls, juice boxes and any other type of small projectile thrown their way. That is why we’re standing at the alter of one 13-year-old Jesus Sauceda, who yesterday became the first player since 1979 to throw a perfect game in Little League World Series history–and the fifth, ever–blanking the Italian team. Sure, he only had to do it in four innings instead of the usual six, but that’s because the mercy rule was used after the Mexican team had gone up 12-0–aided by Sauceda’s 3-for-3, six RBI outing, including a grand slam in the third. The Yankees are currently wondering how to get him up to AA ball.

“I have dreamed of being a hero of one of the games, maybe winning the World Series eventually, but not such a great game all along,” he said.

“To be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting this,” Sauceda said through interpreter Sergio Guzman. The ball Sauceda used for the final pitch was displayed on a table. “I was just going out there to throw.”

This kid’s hardcore. He gave the interview while wearing an ice pack on his arm like he was Nolan Ryan or something. Let’s hope they don’t overwork him to the point his arm’s going to fall off in two years while dancing at his girlfriend’s QuinceaƱera.
