Manny Ramirez Wants To End His Career As A Dodger–We Won’t Hold Our Breath

If there’s anything anyone’s learned about Manny Ramirez in his 16 years playing professional baseball, is that everything he says needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That’s why his latest proclamation about wanting to finish his career with the Dodgers, who acquired him a mere four days ago, will be taken with a shovel’s full. Why? Considering the rumors that he begged the Red Sox to not trade him to Los Angeles after the deal was done, we feel the change of heart after less than a week might be a little premature—just wait till he finds out he can’t get reception or take a leak in the Dodger outfield as easy as he could in Boston.
“I like this city, the environment, the energy in the fans. I think that I’ll play here for the remainder of my career… I just feel comfortable. Regardless of how hectic Friday was — traveling from Boston with only a few hours of sleep, going to a press conference and later play a game — I started to feel the peace of mind that I was searching for.”
“The Dodgers brought me here to end my career in this city — at least that’s what I’m thinking. However, we haven’t even discussed the future. I’m simply starting to know this team,” Ramirez said.
Wait, what? Let’s throw that into the Manny-to-normal-scenario translator and see what we get. “Yeah, I’d like to marry you, which is why I brought you on this first date, but I might be getting ahead of myself. So let’s just order the appetizer and talk about our lives, and maybe we’ll get married. But I’m not promising you anything.”
