Whas Happened In Sports Last Night
- US Open: Is Rafael Nadal showing signs of fatigue the week after winning the gold in Beijing and unseating Roger Federer as number one? It took him a long three sets to dispatch Germany’s Bjorn Phau during the first round of the US Open. Considering in the past three weeks, he’s played in Toronto, Cincinnati, Beijing and New York, just the fact he can remember to get to the court on time is amazing to us. - MLB: Payback is a bitch. Only a week after sweeping the Philadelphia, the Phillies returned the favor to the Dodgers, winning four straight and staying half a game behind the Mets. Los Angeles continues to fall into an abyss, and wasting their free use of Manny Ramirez. Philadelphia 5, Los Angeles 0. [LA Times]
- MLB: Cleveland’s Grady Sizemore joined the 30/30 club yesterday during the Indians’ 10th inning declawing of the Tigers. But there’s a sad story, too. Carlos Guillen left the game with back spasms, leaving Gary Sheffiled’s All Stars, fighting for the last spot in the playoffs, in very bad shape. These are the days we love football, and all the fantasy goodness that comes with it. Cleveland 4, Detriot 3. [Sporting News]
