One of the big stories going into these past Olympic games was the debut of 14-year-old wunderkind English diver Tom Daley (BTW, why is it bad for little girls to twirl and play around when they’re 14, but it’s okay to let them leap off four-story platforms?). Daley, who was paired with 26-year-old Blake Aldridge, placed seventh in the synchronized swimming event, which is definitely not where they wanted to be. That led to bad blood between the two–Aldridge saying it was the hype surround Daley that did them in and Daley claiming Aldridge wasn’t focused. Well now the kid has shot back, dumping his Olympic partner for somebody younger. Wow, 14 years old and he already has the heart of a 45-year-old buying a Porsche for the first time.
Daley, the youngest man to represent in the Olympics Britain for 48 years, revealed today that he has started the search for a replacement for Aldridge.
‘I definitely think [I'll] be trying to get new synchro partners leading to 2012, preferably younger, so we can train for four years. It would be better to get someone nearer my age so we can grow up together and become best friends so when we go away to competitions we really enjoy each other’s company.’
We’re glad he had the mind to stop before sharing that he secretly wants to exchange speedos and share rinsing tips with his new partner because he was juust below the creepiness line there. No need to break that barrier.
