You ever wonder why the name “Whitney”, when typed into Google, provides Whitney Houston as its number four top hit? No? Really? Yeah. Neither do we. But an entrepreneur named Johnny C. Taylor decided that the Google you and we use is simply too white for his liking. So, he’s decided to launch a search engine that “returns results more targeted at the black community.”

“Someone said to me, ‘We don’t have a white Google, why do you need a black Google?’” he said during a visit to the Times today. “And I said, ‘Of course you do — It’s called Google.’”

It actually sounds really hip. In fact, we want one too! Because identity is a really important thing for minorities in America, if you haven’t notice. And having a like-minded community is never a bad thing. (Wink-wink, Latinos). It’s why we choose to visit ESPN Deportes and Terra more often than the regular ESPN website. (Though we still love ya, Sports Illustrated!). But guess what? If you want your own search engine, then you might have a chance.

If you’re not black, and you’re jealous that now there’s a search engine just for that community, start lobbying IAC for one of your own. Taylor says it plans to launch a new “identity search” site in the second quarter of 2009.

Yes. When we type in “Juan” into our search engine, we want this video to be the first damn search item that comes up! Someone. Make. It. Happen!
