We understand that chemistry in sports are important, but is it important enough to keep a player on an extended vacation? That’s the question that comes up after hearing that NY Mets’ second baseman Luis Castillo asked… nay, begged… his coach Jerry Manuel to keep him on the disabled list he’s been on since July 3rd. Why? Because since he got hurt, the team’s been 31-15, as opposed to the 30-34 record they had while he was playing, and he didn’t want to disrupt their groove. Apparently Manuel’s a big fan of empirical evidence because he actually agreed and kept Castillo on the DL, where he’ll stay for the rest of the season and still collect a check. Jedi Mind Trick FTW!

Manuel said Castillo told him the first-place Mets are playing well and that he didn’t want to mess up their chemistry by unseating the platoon of veteran Damion Easley Damion Easley and rookie Argenis Reyes.

“The team is playing good, so I guess I need a rest,” Castillo said, insisting the decision was his alone.

“I didn’t see it coming, but at the same time, in having a little history with Luis, I know how much he likes the team to win,” Manuel said.

Then what’s with not wanting to play? Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Castillo just threw it out there to be a fake martyr… “Oh coach, you’re doing so well without me, you don’t need little ol’ me”… and Manuel was like, “Okay.” How emo.
