Everyone was projecting a Wimbledon rematch between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal like if it was already scheduled to take place at the Olympics. Unfortunately, US Olympic tennis player James Blake had other plans. Having never beaten Federer in his career, Blake decided today was the day to silence the Swiss machine by beating him 6-4, 7-6.

“I always believed in myself,” said Blake. “I’d lost to him eight, nine, 10, 50 times, I don’t know how many, but I had the feeling it could be my day.
“He didn’t play a good first game and that put me up straight away. I played loose and free and I always fancy my chances on the 5-4 game.

“I know I can beat the best in the world on my day and I proved it.”

Can we skip to Rafael Nadal’s gold medal speech and ceremony? Just make sure to keep his hands away from his eyes.
