Last Home Run Ball At Yankee Stadium Gives Man Last Chance To Give Bronx Salute To Stadium Security

Who knew a José Molina home run ball could cause so much trouble (answer: not even José Molina)? The third Molina brother hit the last homer in the old Yankee Stadium Sunday, which ended up in the hands of a Colorado man mysteriously named “Steve.” But the man couldn’t get it through the mesh netting above his seats in Monument Park, so when it fell into schoolteacher Chris Russo’s green chalk-laden fingers, he thought he’d won the lottery. But upon further review–just showing instant replay doesn’t work in the Major Leagues–the Yankee security guards made Russo hand over the ball to “Steve.” If there ever was a time to start a “Bullshit” chant in the stadium, that was it.
“He couldn’t get it through the net,” Russo griped. “I’m the only one who had the ball.”
Security officers made Steve release his grip as they tried to bring the ball down. Then, the guard “begins to tap the ball, and it falls right into my hand,” Russo said. “Two guards said, ‘Give me the ball!’ “
“They take it from my hand. They grab it, flip it to Steve. I said, ‘Whoa! What’s going on?’” Russo said his pleas of ownership fell on deaf ears. He is now mulling litigation for the valuable treasure.
Ah, getting what you want via the lawsuit, or as we call it around here, “the rational person’s shotgun.” Hopefully he can get Simpsons‘ attorney Lionel Hutz, who once defended Homer using the Finders V. Keepers case precedent.
