Whas Happened In Sports Last Night
- US Open: They’re both pushing 30, but we’re sure Serena and Venus Williams played like they were still in their teens out in Compton. Only, it was in front of the nation and at the quarterfinals of the US Open, but at this point it doesn’t matter where these champs do it, it’ll always be a great battle as it was last night. - MLB: Uh-oh, Chicago we have a problem. Houston shutout the Cubs for their eighth straight win and Chicago’s fifth straight loss. They’re still 4 1/2 games up on the Brewers, but with Carlos Zambrano possibly on the DL, it could spell future trouble for the once seemingly World Series-destined Cubs. Houston 4, Chicago 0 [ESPN]
- U.S. Open Cup: Fred! The DC United striker led his team to a victory over the USL’s Charleston Battery to clinch a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League that start next month. DC United 2, Charleston Battery 1 [Sporting News]
