Whas Happened In Sports Last Night

  • NFL: You had to think that the Chargers got a little fight in them in the fourth quarter of last night’s win over the Jets, even with a huge lead. Between Brett Favre leading New York down on consecutive scoring drives and their last second losses to Carolina and Denver, it seemed like Deja Vu. But then San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers put an end to that with a long bomb to Vincent Jackson that sealed the deal. Chargers 48, Jets 29 [San Diego Union Tribune]
  • MLB: Oh man, the Mets aren’t going to make this easy are they? Chicago pitcher Jason Marquis not only pitched the win, but hit a grand slam to make sure the Cubbies got the win that gave them home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. The Mets on the other hand, fell 2 ½ games behind first-place Philadelphia in the NL East and had their wild-card lead cut to one game over idle Milwaukee. We’re churning the Klaxons as we speak for the Metropolitans season. Cubs 9, Mets 5 [NY Post]
  • MLB: Can you believe that it’s the Rays and not the Yankees watching the scoreboard to see if the Red Sox won to see where they’re going to fall in the playoffs? Well, with Boston’s loss, Tampa Bay came one less magic number away from clinching their first AL East division title in their short history. And while this whole playoffs thing goes on, Derek Jeter will be somewhere playing golf with some hot brunette and A-Rod will be getting his highlights done. Rays 4, Orioles 2 [ESPN]
