Whas Happened In Sports Last Night

  • College Football: Oh Mark Sanchez, where did the QB that grew up before our eyes three weeks ago against Ohio State go? This time, another OSU–Oregon State University, they of a 1-2 record–proved to be the Trojan quarterback’s undoing, pressuring him into throws all night that just didn’t connect. Every year a sucky Pac-10 screws the Trojans’ chance at an unbeaten season (Stanford last year, OSU again in ‘06). We should see if Vegas has a line on which team it’s going to be next year. Beavers 27, Trojans 21 [LA Times]
  • MLB: Holy Metsdom! It was starting to look like the rain in New York was going to put a damper on the Met’s playoff push. But it stayed away long enough for the Mets to come from behind and beat the resting Cubs and stay tied with the Brewers for first in the Wild Card hunt. It also put them only a game back of Philadelphia for the NL East division crown. Mets 7, Cubs 6 [NY Times]
  • MLB: Leave it to the Red Sox to keep on ruining the upstart Rays chances of winning the division title by… winning. They beat Cleveland on a combined two-hitter to keep their AL East champ hopes alive, albeit barely. With three games to go, any combination of a loss by the Sox and win by the Rays gives Tampa Bay the AL East crown and we’re sure Eva Longoria some new gear. Red Sox 6, Indians 1 [UPI]
