If there was ever a more screwed up street to live on in America, it’s probably Jose Canseco St. in Miami. The street has been around for more than a decade but the commissioner of Miami-Dade wants it renamed because it runs right by his office and, well, Canseco is a travesty of morality and values. If he keeps barking, then he might just get his way.
”I think it’s an embarrassment. It runs through my district, right by my office,” Martinez told the Miami Herald. Canseco’s name was removed from a 10-block section of Southwest 16th Street in 1997, after students at his old high school, Coral Park, complained.
But it remains on a span from 102nd to 107th avenues, which is part of Martinez’ district. The commissioner says Canseco’s admissions of steroid use in his tell-all book Juiced justify the move. If Martinez resolution passes a Tuesday vote in a committee it will go to the full board of commissioners for a final vote.
Like Yankee Stadium, we kind of want to visit before its all gone, ya know? More importantly, who in the freakin’ world gave this guy a street anyway? He hit homeruns for a living, people. He was never Ghandi!
