Javier Vazquez is set to take the mound this weekend against the Cleveland Indians in a crucial three-game series in which the White Sox are 2 1/2 games up on the Indians in the AL Central. So, when you want to get the best out of your pitcher, you should give him as much confidence as possible considering the season is winding down and playoffs are on the line. So mentioning that your pitcher hasn’t really been there when you’ve needed him is a tactic we’re not too familiar with.
”He hasn’t been,” Guillen said Sunday of Vazquez as a big-game pitcher, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s the bottom line.”
Ok, then.
”What you see is what you get,” Guillen said of Vazquez. ”Javy is going to be Javy. I just want him to be aggressive, throw the ball over the plate and knock somebody on their [butt]. That’s a big three games for us.
”You have to be mean. Go out there and show them we show up to play, show up to kick your guys’ [butts]. And believe me, that will take care of itself.”
When in doubt of your pitcher, just tell him to knock a few players on their asses and make sure to win the games. Sounds like a day at Machochip HQ.
