The New York Mets have climbed the charts to the second-most-powerful-team in baseball behind their subway-series counterparts the New York Yankees. Their estimated worth is $824million, which places them in the running to purchase almost anything they want. And the executive vice-president for business wants to buy some shit.

Howard said an MLS team likely would play in a different venue that would give the team a chance to host other events as well.

“We’re not resting,” Howard said in an interview with Bloomberg Radio’s “On the Ball” program, airing Sept. 13. “Before even Citi Field is completed, we’re looking to see what might be next for us. There’s a lot of opportunity and potential.”
“Our vision is not to be just a successful baseball team, but to be a world-class sports and media entertainment company,” Howard said. “We’re a lot closer to that goal than we were five years ago.”

Though the likelihood of this happening is strong, the team wouldn’t surface until 2011 or so, which means the non-existent franchise could start sending scouts to Europe to lure in players who will be hitting their mid-30’s in the next three years. So, Thierry Henry should start packing his bags. Lets just keep the Nazis out of this, k?
