The Touchscreen BlackBerry Storm Is Slowly, Slowly Coming: Now With Video
16 September 2008, 1:20 PM. By Alex Ferreyra

The BlackBerry Storm, the touchscreen BlackBerry, seems to be getting closer to release. It’s been in production for a hell of a long time, and it seems like every week there’s a sliver of new information: leaked box shots, internal marketing specs, etc.
And today there’s a video.
The BlackBerry Storm is a strange device. It’s exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the U.S., and is sorta supposed to be VZW’s high-end competitor to the iPhone. The thing about the Storm, though, is that BlackBerry is still sorta seen as a business device. RIM, the BlackBerry’s creator, has done a hell of a job in promoting the Curve as a consumer device, but there’s still that Wall Street-y perception.
RIM and Verizon Wireless are trying their hardest, though. It’s supposed to be a world phone, meaning that it can be used in North America and most of the rest of the world. (See, another business use; travelers would benefit, too.) The touchscreen should attract regular consumers, to be sure, but that depends on the pricing.
The App Store is something else that RIM and Verizon Wireless have to content with. People love some of those apps, and if VZW can’t really match that, it’s gonna be difficult to convince folks to choose something other than the iPhone. Sad but true.
