Yankee Jason Giambi Loses Bout With Door… Or Did He?

The poor room-cleaning professional who had to clean up Jason Giambi’s room during his stay in Tampa will hopefully get a big tip from the Yankees front office. That’s because the New York first baseman/DH/mustachioed man had his head bashed in with a door that created a bloodied gash that made his room look like a set from Saw IV. But Giambi, in his genial way, tried to brush it off with some self-effacing humor.

“I would like to have something to tell you, something like a fight or anything else,” Giambi said. “But it was nothing like that. I walked into the bathroom door at the hotel and split it open… There was so much blood the maid probably was wondering where the body was hid…”

Ha… ha? Could a head wound cause that much blood by simply hitting it against a door? Here are three more plausible stories Giambi could’ve went with…

• Hank Steinbrenner, sick of losing, called a team meeting in Giambi’s room. And after talking about how they need to stick together for the rest of the season and try to make the playoffs, he decided to use Giambi as an example, taking a stray bottle of Jack Daniels on the dresser and beating him with it a la Robert De Niro in The Untouchables.
• An out-and-out brawl with Jason’s older brother Jeremy Giambi, a former ballplayer and current bartender, over Jason’s reluctance to lend him money to open up an Auntie Anne’s franchise. Mamma back home would be so saddened to hear that story, Jason just had to tell a lie.
• The thong came back to take revenge for being put on the shelf.
