This upcoming Sunday will be a historical one. That’s because it’ll be the last MLB game played in Yankee Stadium as the team departs for greener pastures… across the street. But not all’s love in the Bronx, as the team is preparing with the likes of the NYPD and “federal and state agencies” (overkill, anyone?) to make sure that when the final pitch gets thrown on Sunday, people don’t start making off with memorabilia like dirt from where Joba Chamberlain spit up his chew during the last game… sniff… at Yankee Stadium. Also, there’s no word on the whether the team is going to let longtime Yankee fan Rudy Guiliani go through with his plan of taking rows 9-11 of every section home.
“Providing a safe and enjoyable stadium atmosphere is our top priority,” Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo said. “With the cooperation and support of so many throughout the law enforcement community, the Yankees look forward to celebrating these historic games with their fans in the manner they and the building deserve.”
But mostly the building because MLB can’t sell the fans… yet. We’re sure we’ll soon read on our ticket stub that it allows us entry into the stadium, but also that we’d have to turn in our kidneys if they need them to sell to cover Ryan Braun’s future contract.
