This is the point where we salute Brandon Backe for trying to bring back tourism to the Galveston, Texas area that was submerged by Hurricane Ike. The Houston Astros pitcher was one of 10 people arrested yesterday while attending a Galveston wedding after his group clashed with cops and he decided to do a little freelancing. He actually went up and punched a cop in the face, which of course resulted in… freedom a day later after paying a $1,500 bond. We don’t know about you, but we have many “acquaintances” who’d love to go to a place where punching a cop only results in bond and release the next day. Not us, mind you. We’d go to South Padre Island and scope out some UT girls, picking the degenerates up on the way back.

The incident started at the resort’s swimming pool bar. A guest shoved a police officer after the officer told him he could not bring an open container of alcohol into the area, and the incident escalated into a riot after the man — and others — refused to comply with the officer’s commands, police said.

At one point, police told Backe to back off but police said Backe struggled with officers instead — exchange blows to the face with one officer. Backe, 30, faces charges including with resisting arrest and using force against an officer. He was released on $1,500 bond, the newspaper said.

Sure, it may look now, but in three years when the court proceedings are done away with and the fines and pay-offs have been made, the bride and groom are going to look back and have a real good laugh about all this. We would say five or ten years, but something tells us the kind of couple that invites people who get into fist fights with cops–let alone ten of them–aren’t exactly the most stable people around.
