Did Kimbo Slice beater Seth Petruzelli defy his best instincts and demolish Slice against the wishes of his paycheck signers? In an interview, Petruzelli noted how when he was signed shortly before the match, the heads of EliteXC told Petruzelli that they preferred if he didn’t take the flight with the Miami brawler down to the ground because that’s where their Golden Boy is his weakest. Well, we all saw how that went down.
“My original plan was to throw out push kicks, they’re called teeps, have him think that I’m going to throw them to try to rush in more, and then shoot in on him, obviously… but the promoters kinda hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him. They didn’t want me to take him down, let’s just put it that way. It was worth my while to try to stand up and punch with him.”
Uh, yeah. Obviously Petruzelli decided to retract his statement in an McCain/Palin “What I meant was…” moment.
“What was meant to be said was that I wanted to keep the fight standing for myself because I knew that was what the crowd, the promoters, and everyone wanted to see because that’s more exciting than just taking someone to the ground. That was my thing only. I wanted to keep it exciting so I decided to keep it standing. It had nothing to do with anybody else. That was all me.”
So if anyone’s scoring at home, it was all him folks, nothing to see here. Oh, and if you see Kimbo on the street, don’t approach him. We’re not too sure he’s going to have many more pro MMA fights coming up, so he might have to go back to bare knuckle street boxing to make ends meet. Well, at least we know how to bring him down.
