Hey, teenagers. If you’re keen to drive faster than 80 mph in your dad’s car on the way to school, best do so as soon as possible. Starting with the 2010 model year, Ford cars will have an onboard computer chip that can limit how fast the car careens down that old post road on the way to your oh-so-horrible gig at the Subway or to visit that girl you met on the internet who you lit various candles to St. Jude hoping it’s not a 36-year-old dude.

Now, provided the computer chip isn’t eminently hackable—time will tell—Ford says it will help keep y’all safe. (So would education, but that’s for dorks.) The feature has been given the name MyKey, and is intended to empower at-work parents to prevent their kids (that is, you) from buzzing about town at unreasonable speeds. (Ford feels 80 mph is more than reasonable; it toyed with making 70mph the limit, but that’s too limiting.)
All Ford-made cars, including Lincoln and Mercury, will eventually have MyKey. Sure, safety first, but blasting “F*ck the Police” while doing a mean 40mph isn’t exactly, well, macho. Enjoy youth and recklessness, the precursor to wine and roses, while you still can, gents.
