Whas Happened In Sports Last Night

  • World Series Game One: It’s been a rough 20 years since Philadelphia saw their last title. But that was before the man known as Cole Hamels brought his pitching sexiness to the City of Brotherly Love. Hamels pitched seven innings, allowing only five hits and two runs, and Chase Utley hit a two-run bomb that put the Phils only three games away from a World Series victory. Phillies 3, Rays 2 [ESPN]
  • Champions League: FC Barcelona pounded FC Basel into submission yesterday behind two scores by Bojan Krkic to get the three points in their group. [Sporting News]
  • World Series News: With Philly and Tampa Bay in the Series, it’s time for a food-off. So which is better, a Cheesesteak or a Cubano. You know what we’re going with… oh yeah, the Ruben. [TBO.com]
  • NBA News: David Stern can breathe a little bit better now that he knows that Kobe Bryant’s knee injury was just a tweak. [Yahoo.com]
  • EPL News: Talk about ugly Americans. Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillette (who also own the NFL’s Bucs and Patriots, respectively) are using their profits from owning the team to pay of interest they incurred purchasing the team, and not putting money back into it. Sorry Fernando Torres, no new toys this Christmas for you. [Daily Telegraph]
