Microsoft Still Trying To Fix Bugs In Latest Xbox Live Update

Bitten by the Xbox Live maintenance bug? You’re certainly not alone, as Microsoft spent the better part of yesterday updating its servers. (It’s still not 100 percent, as of 1:30pm ET.) Redmond does this every now and again, keeping its servers in tip-top condition so as to prevent the kind of massive outages we all suffered through last Christmas, when millions of good boys and girls logged in for the first time, crashing Xbox Live in the process. [Ed Note: And making us turn off Call of Duty 4 in lieu of real work. Bastardos.]
This time around, however, Microsoft is applying the finishing touches to its servers in anticipation of the big Fall Update we’ve been waiting for, first announced at E3 in the summer. That update, which should be pushed through in the coming weeks (hence the name Fall Update), will completely change the look and feel of your Xbox 360. The Dashboard will be given a face lift, supposedly making it easier to navigate all the new media Microsoft wants to sell us.
There’s also avatars, those silly looking people-things Microsoft thinks is the key to the Wii’s success. Make the console (Xbox 360) more attractive to “casual” gamers, and then the money starts rolling in. Too bad the 360 has been carried on the backs of “hardcore” gamers since its release, but whatever, Microsoft always knows what it’s doing. ::Cough::
