Nikon wins today’s WTF in Tech award for whatever the hell this is. Well, technically, it’s the Nikon Media Port UP, and it’s the Japanese company’s foray into the world of wearable computing. It’s sort of like a portable media player, but one that you need to throw your dignity out the window in order to use. It comes with 8GB of flash storage, built-in Wi-Fi, an Internet browser, etc.
And yes, it’s a waste of everyone’s time.

As a portable media player, sure, great, sounds like everyone other such player out there. A little bit of flash memory and Wi-Fi to connect it to your Digital World. Except, you know, that you look like a total dork while using it.
We’d ask Nikon why, but it does seem to be Japan-only for the time being.
Something tells us other portable media player manufacturers have nothing to fear from this.
