President Vlade Divac May Be More Than Just A Dream

Vlade Divac is more than the solid-passing, heavy-flopping center you remember from the Lakers and the Kings. He’s also a hero in his native Serbia, a humanitarian and activist for the cause of refugees in his home country and children across the world and an extremely sought after celebrity endorser (in Serbia, anyway).
Vlade can add another line to his impressive resume, following yesterday’s announcement that he has accepted a high-level position in the Serbian government.
“I’ve named Vlade Divac as my adviser for foreign policy, the Diaspora, sport and humanitarian work on the basis of his international reputation,” said Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić.
In recent months Divac has been working his humanitarian foundation You Can Too, helping to relocate refugee families from collection centers to new homes. These refugees still don’t have new homes after the war that broke up for the former Yugoslavia.
The diaspora! Sweet! We are hoping, as you are, no doubt; that this is the first step towards a President Divac. And if they can’t make that happen in Serbia, then we need to make it happen here. He has a humanitarian record, so we know he wants to take care of the people. He was a great passer, so we know he can delegate authority. So far, we think he matches up well with Obama and McCain. Our only concern is his performance in the debates. In 2002 Shaq roughed him up in their only prose-based face-off, and we’re not sure if he ever recovered.
