Apparently [driving+Dominican Republic+relief pitchers on under-performing teams] just isn’t a good combination. On the heels of Ambiorix Burgos’ possible vehicular homicide, Cubs closer Carlos Marmol got into an accident last night driving around his hometown in the DR. Marmol received seven stitches in his forehead after the crash, and we’re not talking about after the NLDS loss to the Dodgers.

According to the Associated Press, Marmol, a cousin and friend were in a car in his hometown of Bonao around 2 a.m. Tuesday when a truck hit the car. In an e-mail to the AP, Marmol said the air bag deployed and he only suffered a cut and an “inflammation” of his forehead.

“Out of precaution they did different studies on my body, and I don’t have any kind of serious injury,” Marmol wrote.

Yeah, well that puts you one up on all the Cubs fans with broken hearts, Carlos. For shame…
