First Oscar De La Hoya made it clear that his December fight with Manny Pacquiao would not be his last, despite having said that it would just a few months prior. Then De La Hoya publicly looked past Pacquiao by announcing a future bout with Antonio Margarito last week on Spanish-language radio. You would think his camp would do what it could to keep Pacquiao unmotivated for the fight, right? Nope. Instead we have more bulletin board material for Manny. De La Hoya trainer Nacho Beristain has decided to make things worse, declaring that Pacquiao is in for such a thrashing on December 6th that he’ll drop weight to avoid Oscar in the future.

The Mexican trainer declared on Monday that De La Hoya would pound Pacquiao so badly that Pacquiao would move back to a lower weight division.

“After what will happen on December 6, Manny Pacquiao will move down to 135 or 130 lbs because he is going to get a tremendous beating,” Beristain, speaking through an interpreter, told radio program Sports Chat.

Oh boy.
The machismo coming from the De La Hoya camp is so thick that you can cut it with a knife. The report tries to find balance by noting that Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach had previously stated that his fighter was capable of knocking De La Hoya out, but we don’t think the two comments sit equal. What’s Roach supposed to say, that his fighter can’t knockout his upcoming opponent? “Capable” is a word you use to show your respect to an opponent. “Tremendous beating,” on the other hand, sends a clear message that you have no respect for your adversary and think the fight is already won.
Stay classy, Nacho.
