UFC President Dana White is justifiably thrilled that ProElite, which was the biggest competition to his MMA empire, has declared bankruptcy in the wake its less than thrilling, controversy-filled fight card a few weeks back.
But White’s not content to just watch ProElite fall into the abyss. Instead, White has taken to his video blog to blast the dead company’s executives, hailing its demise, belittling their executives’ business acumen and offering the company’s biggest star, Kimbo Slice, an opportunity to be on his lowly reality show.
“Today is a great day in MMA. Pro Elite is dead,” he says in reference to EliteXC’s parent company. “These guys were bad for the sport so thank God they’re gone.”
In a recently posted video blog, White calls Jeremy Lappen, EliteXC head of fight operations, a three-time loser for his newest failed attempt at MMA promoting.
“Jeremy, you have a law degree, go get a real (expletive) job,” says White. “Your parents must be really bummed out. You spent all that money on a law degree and you’re (messing) around in MMA trying to screw up this business. Go screw up somebody’s (expletive) court case.”
He also had some parting shots for vice-president Jared Shaw, whose father Gary — a long-time boxing promoter — launched the outfit before handing the reins to his son.
“You got a rich daddy. You can live at home with your mom and dad. In the basement,” says a chuckling White. “You don’t even have to get a job. You can go hang out at nightclubs and deejay.
Why shouldn’t White be happy? ProElite had only one thing over UFC, a network television deal with CBS, and on the company’s last EliteXC card the world got to see Seth Petruzelli, a UFC cast-off, defeat Slice, the ProElite golden boy, and subsequently destroy the ProElite brand. You couldn’t ask for a better outcome than that. The fellas over at the “kimbo slice is an embarrassment to MMA” Facebook group agree, and the commentary there is both witty and mature. An example:
MUAH HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAA Exc is done and kimbo will have to go to either another org or back to the streets either way him and jarad shaw will still greatly enjoy there anal sex sessions
We hope Kimbo will take this biting criticism head on by forming his own Facebook group, one dedicated to spelling and punctuation. As for Kimbo’s future, White has offered the former top dog at EliteXC a chance to compete on UFC’s reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter,” taking yet another shot at what White sees as Slice’s less than impressive skills.
Asked about Kimbo, White said, “He can be on The Ultimate Fighter. What’s he done other than get 10 million hits on YouTube, what’s he done to deserve to be in the UFC? Nothing. I don’t consider him a real athlete. He won’t win The Ultimate Fighter. The offer’s out there if he wants to take it, but he won’t win it.”
Oof. While White is throwing salt on the wounds of ProElite others are coming to pick the carcass clean. Online Broadcasting Systems, the parent company of fight news website Ringsports.com, has announced that it will bid to takeover the various domain names associated with ProElite’s brands, possibly to create an MMA MySpace of sorts.
