It seems everyone wants a piece of the President-Elect these days, and England is no exception. Even though he shorted Prime Minister Gordon Brown with only 10 minutes on the phone while he gave French President Sarkozy half an hour, there are no hard feelings amongst the Brits. West Ham, the EPL team Obama has mentioned being a fan of since visiting his half-sister Auma in 2003, has offered to give him the red carpet treatment to him when he makes his first official visit to England. Of course, they’re going to stick him in the press box, because we don’t need a bottle of Guinness thrown from the upper deck to start an international incident.
“We are very proud of what Barack Obama has achieved and respect what he has done,” West Ham director Mike Lee told BBC Sport. “We plan to send him a letter of congratulations and invite him to come to game at Upton Park the next time he is in London,” added Lee.
Wow, the American people not only elected its first black President on Tuesday, but one that’s an avowed soccer fan. Hopefully we’re able to live to see the day when the first Blacktino-Angloneese cricket fan becomes Prime Minister of Naftalandia. Of course, that year will be 2044 and all of us will be some shade of mochalatta chill.
