Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola will take on Travis Walker this Saturday night on HBO, a fight that could be the first step up the ladder for the undefeated Mexican-American heavyweight.
One thing that Arreola has complained about in his own sport is the reliance of promoters on washed up big names, such as Evander Holyfield, over up-and-coming boxers. Arreola is a big MMA fan, and in a new interview with Fight Hype appears to believe that UFC President Dana White did the same thing with his current champion, former WWE champ Brock Lesnar.

PC: Are you a fan of MMA?

CA: Yeah, I am; of course I watch it. The only problem I have with MMA is this man, Brock Lesnar, is a champion. He got a title shot with 2 wins and 1 loss. That’s a slap in the face to all of the other MMA fighters that’s been working their asses off with all of these wins and this guy just comes in there with 2 fights and gets a title shot. That’s a slap in the face.

Arreola’s got a point here. While Lesnar is by no means washed up like Holyfield, he didn’t have a long pedigree of accomplishment in the MMA world and was still handed a title shot. If you worked hard at your job for years and years, and some other guy got the big promotion over you after three months of work, could you possibly feel valued at your company ever again?
We wonder if the Lesnar elevation has lowered morale in the UFC locker room, though we have no evidence to suggest it has or hasn’t.
