We now have proof that, given the right motivation, criminals will steal anything.
Over the weekend a cadre of thieves in Toledo, Ohio took the biggest thing they could find from their local boxing gym: the actual ring. And if it’s not returned, it could devastate the local boxing scene. [Ed Note: For some reason, we think it's law, we blame Bush for this.]

The ring at Glass City Boxing was swiped sometime Sunday, WNWO-TV reported. Trainer Tom Urbina says if the ring is not returned the gym may have to cancel upcoming boxing shows.

The ring has been used since the 1970s by numerous local fighters including Devin Vargas, a heavyweight who made the 2004 U.S. Olympic team.

Urbina is urging anyone with information on the ring’s whereabouts to contact Toledo police.

It would be a shame to see any fights canceled due to this crime, especially given the sorry state of boxing’s economy these days. But we have to believe that this mystery won’t be too hard to crack. Boxing rings are enormous and heavy, so this had to be a ten man job. And it’s not like you can just shove this thing in the corner of your basement.
Eventually, someone’s going to notice that Joey down the street has been hosting amateur fights in his backyard. And then we’ll have our man.
