Gina Carano And UFC May Be Able To Do Business, We Hope

Well, it looks like at least one of the marqee stars of the now defunct EliteXC will continue to make a living in the future. Though there has been little noise concerning the status of Kimbo Slice, many MMA onlookers have wondered aloud what the future would hold for Gina Carano, who besides being drop dead gorgeous also has some real talent and drive behind her.
Though UFC head honcho Dana White had said in the past that he wasn’t interested in female fighters, he has softened his stance quite a bit over the past few weeks. And now, White has sent a clear signal that Carano and her anticipated EliteXC opponent, Cris Cyborg, may be able to make the fight in his company.
You’ve come a long way, babies.

“Gina Carano is a star,” he said when asked about the former EliteXC star. “I think she’s talented, I think she’s got all the tools. So what I’m willing to do is bring Gina into the WEC. We could do fights whenever there’s a challenger for Gina. That’s how I’ll test the waters and see how it goes.”

The only potential roadblock for Zuffa to sign Carano would be her current situation with ProElite. Currently the fighters who were under contract with the company when they closed their doors are caught in limbo while the company tries to auction off their contracts as well as all of the assets of the company.

That’s the real problem with getting Carano into the WEC, or anywhere else for that matter. If the contract auction goes through as planned, Carano could wind up anywhere. And if EliteXC succeeds in blocking the auction, poor Gina could be on the sidelines for months and months longer than is good for her career.
So, for now, she waits.
