Jean-Claude Van Damme Likes ‘Em Young

When people make fun of Jean-Claude Van Damme, we can only shake our heads. Would you make fun of Clint Eastwood? Or Elvis? Well, JCVD is as much a part of the shitty 80s movies scene as those other guys were in their decade’s crapfests. Bloodsport and Kickboxer were seminal films of that era, and it also brought the words Kumate and Din-Mak (deathtouch) into our lexicon. Now, the muscles from Brussels is attempting a comeback with his new film JCVD, and Newsweek had a 22-year-old reporter named Sarah Ball conduct the Q&A. Of course, what went down rates as high on the unintentional comedy scale as most of his films do. [JCVD] It was like being naked—I would love to be naked in front of you.
[NW] Well, I —
[JCVD] Not being naked being naked. I say such things in Hong Kong and they thought I was being a crazy Frenchman. Being naked of protection.
[NW] So you ‘ ve no regrets at all?
[JCVD] Believe me—I’ve done very good stuff and very crazy stuff, and I don’t regret the crazy stuff. So are you in New York?
[NW] Yes, I am.
[JCVD] And are you 27, or 32?
[NW] I ‘ m 22.
[JCVD] Oh, f–––. That is very young. Will you come to the premiere?
[NW] I don ‘ t know. When is it?
[JCVD] I don’t know. You will wear all black, a black dress and high heels?
[NW] Uh —
[JCVD] You can come find me, I will be the one with the very broad shoulders, dark hair and a simple suit. We can have some champagne, you and me.

OK, we’re going to own up to the fact we think the man’s seedy as hell. But if you watch the following clip, you’ll understand that Jean-Claude Van Damme pisses excellence dammit. His Din-Mak is the fucking best and when he gets down, he’s so magnetic that he practically wills the other Chinese girl to get up and dance with him… while wearing that outfit! I mean a wife-beater with buttons on it is not exactly an easy one to pull off, but hot damn does he ever. So we forgive him for his transgressions. He’s just doing what he’s used to.
