Joe Calzaghe’s Dad Thinks American Boxers Are Bollocks

Sure, it’s probably just promotional crap thrown in the air to get people talking, so let’s talk. Joe Calzaghe’s dad and trainer Enzo was chatting with The Guardian this past weekend about his kid’s upcoming fight with Roy Jones, Jr. this upcoming Saturday at Madison Square Garden when he let it slip that every single American boxer is a piece of crap, including Calzaghe’s last opponent, Bernard Hopkins. All this is in contrast to the new cop of talent they have coming out of their arses overseas (but not in Mexico and other Latin American countries, so you know he’s full of mierda).

Well, yeah. I’m upset about America in general. Do you know how bad boxing has got in America…? They haven’t got one person to talk about! Not one person to be the future of American boxing! All they do is recycle the old fucking Mickey Mouses. How can Holyfield come back? Give us a break, give us a break.

In Britain we’ve got fresh young ones that are coming up all the time! David Haye, he’s only 28. They’re fresh! In Germany and Europe they’ve got talent too, but in America they don’t progress from the Olympics: it’s all old recycled fucking goods, like Hopkins. He should retire and give back to the kids some of what he’s learned because he is a class act.

Who are we to argue about the Olympics bit? When one of their own complains about how lousily you’re run, the US Boxing Association should expect comments like that from outside the U.S., too. Although, hearing it from a man who said he’s slept in phone booths in every major city in Europe is like hearing how mad you are at cash management from the homeless guy you give a quarter to everyday coming out of the train.
