Miami Dolphins’ Courney Bryan So Broke He Could Work At Arby’s

Witness the tale of Miami Dolphins safety Courtney Bryan, who was resigned by the team earlier this week after being cut at the end of the preseason. Unable to find another job in the NFL until now, Bryan joined the legions made a living the best way he could: flipping burgers at an Arby’s to pay for correspondence courses.
We knew the economy was bad, but we had always figured that serving just a year in the NFL would keep us out of the fast food racket forever. Guess we were pretty wrong on that one.
Bryan was just looking for a better job than working nights at Arby’s, a rookie on the bottom of the fast-food chain making a smidge less than his 2007 pay of $288,500.
As fullback Lousaka Polite, recently among the NFL unemployed himself, said, “Don’t live too flashy. Save it up because you don’t know how long you’re going to be here.”
But Bryan wasn’t slicing beef and mopping at Arby’s just to scrape by on his bills.
”It’s hard out there. We’re in a recession!” he laughed about taking the job. “It’s not like I was broke. I was bored. I couldn’t go to movies every day.”
He spent his days taking an online class to get the 11 credits he still needed toward his college degree.
He also worked out twice a day.
”Those weights get heavy when you’ve got no motivation to lift them, though,” he laughed.
We have to imagine that working at an Arby’s would force one to workout even more if they wanted to get back to the NFL. While extremely delicious, their roast beef sandwiches and mac and cheese bites are not exactly the breakfast of champions.
But that’s all behind him now. No more will Courtney Bryan be forced to put mayonnaise in the sun to make the secret sauce. Welcome back to the league, Mr. Bryan, at least for this year.
