No man worth his salt would publicly cry over a female, but if that female is his dog, let ‘er rip, buddy. Which is exactly what 24 year-old former Cologne captain and current Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Helmes has been doing since his 17 month-old golden retriever Emmy was put down due to a kidney disease she inherited at birth. “My dog was like my baby,” he told German gossip site Bild. “I cried for days when she died.” The good news is he’s been channelling all that pain into goals. Every time he scores, he points to the sky and thinks about his dog. Awww. That would be really gay if it weren’t really helping his game. So far he’s scored goals against Karlsruhe and Schalke this past weekend. He plans to do the same when he plays England tonight. And while we’re indulging in our sensitive sides, here are some live puppies. Don’t act like you don’t like it.
