Video: Rico De Souza Breaks His Own Record By Riding Longest Surfboard In The World
20 November 2008, 4:00 PM. By Alex Ferreyra

Fifty-five year-old Brazilian surfer Rico De Souza rode a 30 foot surfboard for at least ten seconds Monday, breaking his own World Record set two years ago on November 17, 2006, when he rode a 26.42-foot board (25.6-feet by some accounts) at Macumba beach 50 Km west of Rio de Janeiro. Souza developed the new 220-pound
board with adjustments he figured out from the previous board which lacked bend. The official record-breaking ride was scheduled for this Saturday, but De Souza managed to outdo himself at practice instead.
It was an exceptional wave, the wave was shaky, the board was jumping, but I managed to stand firm and it was a thrilling sensation to catch a half or one-metre wave (on such a long board) because it seems like you’re riding a 20, 30 or even 40-foot wave because it is a great adrenaline.
At what point does a surboard just become a giant floor? Video of Rico and his amazing board are after the jump.
